Domaine de Cala New Release | Summer 2018/19

Founded by Joachim Splichal, acclaimed chef and founder of Patina Restaurant Group, Domaine de Cala continues 60 years of rosé production on the property, now stretching across more than 600 acres, with 120 acres dedicated to vines. When Splichal returned to the starting point of his career, the Provence region of France, he set about the task of creating a defining edition to the wonderful category of dry, crisp, refreshing Provence Rosé.

Our tasting with Joachim Splichal and his team at Domaine de Cala in May 2018

He was in luck when he secured the 450 acre property near Brignoles, in the very heart of Provence. This area, in the Coteaux Varois en Provence region, is an elevated, continental, cool area, which is considered amongst the finest spots. Domaine de Cala calls on world-renowned Winery Consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt and expert rosé Winemaker Bruno Tringali to express the distinct character of the winery’s terroir, climate, and vines. With their debut in 2015 the winery has already gained wide recognition amongst Rosé lovers and we are excited to be introducing this beautiful Rosé, a refreshing blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Syrah of to Australia for the very first time! These are, again, amougst of the stars of the region and vintage.

Ever wondered where the name is coming from?

It is quite naturally that Joachim Splichal decided to name his Domaine “CALA”, he loved the poetic side of the name and wanted to share a part of his life by:

CA : CALIFORNIA

LA : LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles holds an important place in his heart. In addition, the word originates from "cove" being a special and secluded place.
