The next generation of Hunter Valley producers, making wines that speak to the evolution of the young wine consumer.

Angus Vinden is the owner/winemaker and creative mind behind the Headcase wines, while still making and maintaining his family Vinden Estate Wines. Having taken the reins from his father just a few years ago, he is reimagining his family’s wine label with a string of exciting, modern wines coming out of his cellar. Sourcing fruit from some of the Hunter’s great vineyards, Angus makes contemporary wines, that ooze character.

    Vinden Headcase Pokolbin Blanc 2019

From the Somerset vineyard, 1969 plantings on fine clay loam. Made using a number of different varieties. Some skin contact, some oak, some fermented in stainless steel.

Perfume and texture. It’s a wine of excellent mouthfeel, musk lolly notes, stonefruits, custard apples and pears. It’s a wine with a big personality but it still presents as clean and refreshing. Indeed it’s quite lovely. There’s almost a waxiness to the texture, a most pleasant aspect.

    Vinden Headcase Pokolbin Blanc 2019

Bright, light to mid-yellow-green colour with a very fresh, lifted, spicy gewürz-like aroma, the palate slightly flat and phenolic, again possibly due to some gewürz in the mix. It has density. The finish is dry and emphatic, the body medium to full and ample. Bright acidity keeps it all on the rails. It's a bit like an Alsace Gentil style.
