Thousand Candles Single Vineyard Syrah 2018
When you’re getting on a bit, it’s kind of hard to read the vintage on these wines! On the side of the label, in small curvy font. Oh look! It’s printed on the top of the cork too, so that makes it easier for me. Anyway, old oak, plenty of whole bunch.
Mocha, earth, pepper and spice, blackberry and dark red berries. It’s medium-bodied, earthy, sooty and fleshy in tannin, blueberry and raspberry, a smattering of dried herbs, acidity is soft, but balanced, though I’d say it’s driven by tannin, and there’s some coffee bean and and toasted hazelnut on long earthy and gently amaro-laced finish. Very good. I love the chewy feel of it.
