Thistledown is the vision of Master of Wine, Giles Cooke. Working with Grenache growers in unique sites across Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek, Giles makes elegant, fine, aromatic reds. Choosing to focus on the Grenache grape shows the belief Giles has in this special variety. Thistledown Grenaches are made in small quantities in the Adelaide Hills.

Press Review

    Thistledown Gorgeous Grenache 2018

Employs old vines in the Riverland, McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley, matured in used French hogsheads and stainless steel. A confectionery streak was/is inevitable, and others will find it less distracting than I do. Regardless, it’s a good drink at the price. Drink soon.

Unmistakable fresh flowers and red berries here that are delivered amid gently earthy notes. The palate has a plush, vibrant and attractive feel with juicy, upbeat tannins to close. Drink now. Screw cap.

    Thistledown Gorgeous Grenache 2018

This is a full-bodied wine for the variety, but it’s not without
elegance. It leads with aromas of red currant, strawberry, rose petals, stalks, pepper and a savory, slightly sanguine tone. The palate is gripped by tightly wound, granular tannins that are counteracted by a satiny texture and plump, fleshy red fruit.

    Thistledown Gorgeous Grenache 2018

Medium to deep red/purple colour with a sweet, fruit-driven raspberry and cherry fragrance. Some tarry notes. It's medium-bodied and juicy on the tongue, the finish bringing on a layer of emery-like tannins which dry and cleanse the finish. A bright, straightforward fruity style of grenache, with good length and the promise of more to come with age.
