Sutton Grange Fairbank Syrah 12pk 2018
Established in 1998, a small estate with an original vision as a Thoroughbred facility. In time, a small vineyard was added, farmed organically, with a view to crafting savoury, complex, “bistro style” wines. Pioneers of styles so common now, like their cult-following pale rosé, they are quality driven and highly acclaimed. The vineyard and winery operations are led by Melanie Chester, a star in the making. She joined Sutton Grange by way of Seppelt, so has a very strong hand for central Victorian wines, and has quickly made a mark in the industry through the Young Gun of Wine Awards.
Sutton Grange Fairbank Syrah 2018
Hand-picked and sorted, one batch with 100% whole bunch carbonic maceration contributed 35% of the blend, the balance whole-berry fermented, matured in French oak (16% new) for 9 months. An impressive support role to the Estate Syrah, vinified totally differently, and reflecting skilled winemaking. It's light to medium-bodied, with the juicy carbonic contribution tickling the tongue, black cherry and plum to the fore.
