Press Review

Sons of Eden Kennedy GSM 2017

It's svelte, sweet and smooth, but it still qualifies as a robust red. It certainly pours on a power of fruit flavour. Blackberry, kirsch, dark leather and anise flavours sweep convincingly through the palate. All guns ablaze. Value and quality in one.

Sons of Eden Kennedy GSM 2017

As my colleague Walsh has noted, you can count on Kennedy.

I tasted through a range of Sons of Eden current/new releases recently and this wine stood out. I tasted them without knowing the asking prices and so I was surprised/delighted to find that this was also about the most affordable of them. Some days you have a win. What I like about this is that it’s both robust and svelte. It tastes of blackberry, kirsch, anise and dark leather and at every point along the flow of the palate it feels convincing.

The bright red fruit of grenache sits atop blue and purple-berry notes here. The palate has a very plush, fleshy raspberry core with such freshness and silky appeal. A blend of grenache, shiraz and mourvedre. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

    25 Great Reds $30 & Under

It just sneaks into this price bracket, but, even so, the value is compelling. In short, it's a fantastic red wine. Suitable for Saturday night special dinner. Pure, svelte, sweet-fruit flavour sweeps through the palate in commanding and seductive fashion.

Sleek and silky layers of English strawberry and mint on the nose, lush fruit and a smoky lilt to the palate.
