Sentio Beechworth Pinot Noir 6pk 2016
A local Beechworth boy, Chris Catlow grew up amongst the vineyards of the region, and was destined to one day become the rising winemaking star of the region. Yearly trips to Burgundy to work vintage with Benjamin Leroux have taught Chris the importance of site, thus Sentio wines are always an expression of single vineyard wines. Founding his own label in 2013, Chris is amongst an exciting group of young winemakers emerging from North-East Victoria. Working out of an abandoned asylum in the middle of Beechworth, he is helping to reshaping the narrative of the region.
Chris Catlow has worked some magic here. Beechworth and pinot noir aren’t the happiest of bedfellows but on tasting this you’d never know it. It’s firm but bright, solid but sour-edged, with a commanding reach of undergrowth-y, spice-shot, cherried flavour through the finish. It’s a muscular wine but it’s also entirely varietal. We’re in excellent territory here. Campbell Mattinson- Winefront
