After 20 years together, Renato Corino and his brother Giuliano decided to split their family's renowned Barolo estate in 2005, allowing each to forge their own path under different labels. Renato's 18 hectare share in La Morra is mostly Nebbiolo along with some Barbera and Dolcetto. After going solo, Renato built a brand new state-of-the-art winery to steer production in the same perfectionist fashion that he runs his vineyards. The two brothers are still close and having always worked together as a team, are both producing classic and distinctive La Morra Barolo from the famed Corino sites. Renato Corino is one of the most interesting figures in Piedmont. Although often identified with the group of young growers who emerged from La Morra in the mid-1990’s, Corino started making his wines in the late 1980s under the tutelage of his mentors Elio Altare and Luciano Sandrone, who also happens to be his cousin. Not bad, I always felt that Corino’s wines always had an unusual level of maturity.
