Located in the heart of Western Australia’s renowned Margaret River wine region, the Pierro locality, owned and managed by Dr Mike Peterkin, has a viticultural pedigree second to none. Besides making award-winning Chardonnay of distinctive character, Mike also produced the first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend in Australia. The Pierro reds are now among the very best in the region.

Press Review

    Pierro Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2014

The extraction levels on this set of Pierro wines are exemplary. The alcohols more balanced, too. None is more suggestive of the savoury idyll for which they strive, than this. Red and blackcurrant notes are brushed with sage, ever so gently. The milk chocolate oak pillars are a mere adjunct. Persistent of flavour. Long of finish. Graceful.

    Pierro Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2014

I’ve not much experience of Pierro Cabernet, more with their Chardonnay.

Altogether stylish wine, and a bit more into ‘claret’ territory than many from the region. Red (mainly) and black fruit, wild herb perfume, a little chocolate, and sweet rolling tobacco. It’s medium-bodied, crisp and precise, shapely but subtle tannin, a nice energy to it, closing with fine length and a sort of rose and chocolate perfume. Just lovely.

    Pierro Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2014

More powerful than some light prior vintages, it's still more claret-like than most Australian cab-merlots. It is medium-to-full-bodied and very approachable, with appealing flesh and textural qualities, the aromas smoky, cedary and spicy oak scented.

    Pierro Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2014

Medium to full red colour with a tinge of purple. The bouquet shows cabernet cedar, spicy oak and some smoky notes, the fruit largely concealed at this stage. It's medium to full-bodied and fleshy, with good extract and textural qualities, the finish quite long and finely-grained, smooth and savoury. A very drinkable, quite complex Bordeaux-stye red with more intensity and structure than the LTCf.
