Winery Details

Pegasus Bay is a family-owned and run business within the Waipara Valley, led by patriarch and Neuroscientist Ivan Donaldson. Free draining and low fertility soils produce low yields of high quality, flavourful grapes, which fully express the qualities of Pegasus Bay’s unique setting. The range of wines is led by diverse and ageworthy styles of Pinot Noir and Riesling, with highly expressive Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon blends complementing the portfolio.

Press Review

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2018
A wine with a distinctive pale golden hue. Intense, primary, heady bouquet displaying honeyed beeswax, mandarin, quince jam, ripe nectarine and lavender characters. A rich, luscious, generous palate with plenty of botrytis character that has just about enough acid to balance but it certainly is unctuous. A big, bold, beautiful statement wine.

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2018
A very distinctive and attractive riesling with honey, dried apricot, mango, lime, citrus and struck-flint flavours. Medium to medium-dry. Restrained lusciousness with a lingering finish.

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2018
Subtle at first, yet attractively floral with citrus, spice and sweet fruit lift. Powerful in the mouth, a textural weight and richness, yet retaining freshness and vibrancy with the acidity deftly cutting through the honeyed richness. The flavours hang in the mouth on the long finish. Already delicious, but history tells us this will amply reward cellar time.

Just veering into an off-dry style, making it a delicious accompaniment to Vietnamese or lighter Thai cuisines. Ripe, sunny orchard fruit and white flower aromas join with candied lemons and slatey minerals on the round palate, balanced by brisk, cleansing acidity.

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2018
...Intense and lovely aroma of lime and herbs with a light note of orange and apricot. There’s not quite as much intensity on the palate but there is a lovely grip in the texture, as if there had been some skin contact, though the tech details suggest not. It’s very hard to believe this has this much residual sugar as the texture and the freshness make it seem almost dry, except right on the finish. Good value for a distinctive wine with notable persistence.

Another ripper from Pegasus Bay. Big, flavours or orange marmalade, grapefruit and nectarine with a sweet hint of clover honey and beeswax. Hits the palate as sweet on impact, then dry and lengthy with a tangy citrus finish.
