Pegasus Bay is a family-owned and run business within the Waipara Valley, led by patriarch and Neuroscientist Ivan Donaldson. Free draining and low fertility soils produce low yields of high quality, flavourful grapes, which fully express the qualities of Pegasus Bay’s unique setting. The range of wines is led by diverse and ageworthy styles of Pinot Noir and Riesling, with highly expressive Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon blends complementing the portfolio.

Press Review

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2015

Bright lemon-lime blossom aromas joined by faint honey, talc, blackcurrant scents. Palate is energized and tight, you see the loll of sweet riesling fruit but acidity is a bustle of chalkiness and firmness, really driving the wine, tight and long, energetic. So fresh. Such intensity. Drink in 20 years. Yew!

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2015

A blockbuster and complex Riesling with lime, honey, mango and apricot flavours, but less botrytis influence than usual. The wine is medium to dry with sweetness balanced by fruity acidity and fine tannins. A distinctive wine that makes a bold statement.

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2015

A complex Riesling that has talcum powder, citrus peel and freshly squeezed lime aromas to the fore with a little toast and marmamlade too. A sweeter style beautifully balanced with mouthwatering acidity. Great length.

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2015

From stony, gravelly soils carried from the Southern Alps by ice-age glaciers to the Waipara Valley. Cool temperature fermentation, …
Pale gold with some spritz. Herbal top note. Very nice balance for a Spätlese style of wine. Real refreshment and vitality. Nice savoury undertow. Racy and with good length.

    Pegasus Bay Riesling 2015

At 22 grams per litre residual sugar, the medium-sweet 2015 Riesling would make a fine accompaniment to many spicy dishes. It starts with green apple notes, then adds riper nuances of nectarines and mandarins, adds a bit of creamy texture on the mid-palate, then finishes with balanced sweetness and acidity.
