Five Stars | Matthew Jukes & Tyson Stelzer New Zealand Pinot Noir Classification

Pegasus Bay is a family-owned and run business within the Waipara Valley, led by patriarch and Neuroscientist Ivan Donaldson. Free draining and low fertility soils produce low yields of high quality, flavourful grapes, which fully express the qualities of Pegasus Bay’s unique setting. The range of wines is led by diverse and ageworthy styles of Pinot Noir and Riesling, with highly expressive Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon blends complementing the portfolio.

    Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir 2017
From the North Canterbury region's first winery, this Pinot is a beauty. Most Pinots from the Waipara district are a little leaner and juicier but Pegasus Bay has been able to demonstrate some power with a graceful touch. Be consumed by leaf litter, plummy fruits and blackcurrant aromas. Give this some time in the glass and the reward is imminent as it slowly unfurls. Redcurrants drive a delicate fruit profile. A veil of dried thyme lingers as cloves come out to play later. Spicy and long with joyous persistence, it's hard not to be captivated by the weight. A super impressive wine.
