Pegasus Bay is a family-owned and run business within the Waipara Valley, led by patriarch and Neuroscientist Ivan Donaldson. Free draining and low fertility soils produce low yields of high quality, flavourful grapes, which fully express the qualities of Pegasus Bay’s unique setting. The range of wines is led by diverse and ageworthy styles of Pinot Noir and Riesling, with highly expressive Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon blends complementing the portfolio.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2017

Impressive, vibrant and flinty white-peach and grapefruit aromas with an array of fresh, spicy, hazelnut-tinged oak. The palate combines a lot of ripe melon and white peaches with smoky, grilled nuts. Great wine that’s packed with interest.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2017

Powerful struck match, wood smoke and toast notes, adding lactic hints and white peach. Real acid drive to this giving brisk freshness, leading with a bittersweet citrusy element reminding me of grilled grapefruit. Fragrant top notes and a long, mellow finish, though does tighten up a little with time.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2017

Rich, weighty, textural wine that "feels" as good as it tastes. Big, intense, and quite complex chardonnay with struck match/mineral, grapefruit, bran biscuit and spicy oak flavours. Impressive now but promises to grow in stature with bottle age.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2017

A great bouquet - intense and forward - no mistaking the baking spices and roasted cashew attack then aromas of sweet grapefruit, lemon, white peach and minerality. On the palate - full-bodied and full- on with a powerful core of flavours from baked custard and brulée to citrus and apple to stone fruits and baking spices. Plenty of oak, toastiness and acidity to play with. A long finish with some fine oak tannins and great complexity.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2017

This powerful, North Canterbury wine has a definite ‘wow’ factor. From ungrafted, 30-year-old vines, it was hand-picked and fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak puncheons. Full of personality, it has a highly fragrant,
complex, slightly smoky bouquet, leading into a weighty but elegant palate, with
grapefruit-like flavours, finely integrated oak and lovely depth.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2017

Estate grown in North Canterbury, this is a highly impressive, youthful wine. Powerful and weighty, it is invitingly fragrant, with intense, grapefruit-like flavours gently seasoned with biscuity French oak, notable complexity and obvious ageing potential.
