Winery Details

Pegasus Bay is a family-owned and run business within the Waipara Valley, led by patriarch and Neuroscientist Ivan Donaldson. Free draining and low fertility soils produce low yields of high quality, flavourful grapes, which fully express the qualities of Pegasus Bay’s unique setting. The range of wines is led by diverse and ageworthy styles of Pinot Noir and Riesling, with highly expressive Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon blends complementing the portfolio.

Press Review

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2016

Lavish sulphide, rubber and struck match, and while there’s intensity of fruit to cover, it remains a calling card of this wine. Some nutty edges, vanilla, intense acidity and length. Excellent, but you have to enjoy a walk on the wild side. And the coloured girls go…

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2016

Very attractive bouquet of Chardonnay with aromas and flavours of roasted cashew and brazil nut, baked yellow stone fruits and baking spices. Dry with a decent weighty structure, medium+ yet balanced alcohol, similar level of acidity and a wild honey and citrus layer. Quite complex with a lactic and wild honey bite, tasty and very moreish. Lengthy finish, balanced and well-made.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2016

Handy concentration and integration of some very complex traits into a chardonnay that has bright pear and peach aromas. Grilled-peach and lightly spiced hazelnut flavours hold through a long, smooth finish.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2016

The 2016 Chardonnay has a very focused, well-defined bouquet of citrus peel, hints of passion fruit, crushed stone and orange pith. The concentrated palate is very harmonious, displaying supremely well-judged acidity and an almost honeyed texture, and yet it maintains impressive tension and precision all the way through to the finish. Superb.

    Pegasus Bay Chardonnay 2016

The 2016 Chardonnay was fermented and aged in 500-liter puncheons. It reveals elegant aromas of pencil shavings and white peaches, then flavours of pineapple. This medium to full-bodied wine is plump through the mid-palate, silky in texture and lingers on the finish.
