Winemaker Ben (Mr.) Riggs follows the philosophy “iconic wines from iconic regions”. Whether it’s McLaren Vale Shiraz, Coonawarra Cabernet, or Clare Valley Riesling, his wines are expressing the essence of the vineyard and variety in a style that is big, rich and complex, but also with finesse, texture and elegance. In Ben’s own words: “Think Ella Fitzgerald – bombastic and powerful with a huge vocal range, yet with purity of tone and a gentle sensibility when needed.”

Press Review

    Mr. Riggs Piebald Syrah 2016

Beautifully balanced, perfumed and flavoured. The array of spices, the flush of fruit, the way tannin helps tease floral and spice notes out through the finish. Only just into mediumweight but good for it. Dry licorice characters in the background. Delicious.

    Mr. Riggs Piebald Syrah 2016

From two vineyards on the opposite borders of the Adelaide Hills, coming together seamlessly. It's only medium-bodied, but has all the flavour range you could wish for, with the fruit spectrum sitting more in the red corner than the black. The tannin support is precisely calibrated, and the result is a wine of elegance to enjoy now or later. 14.5% alc.

Surprisingly quiet aromatics, considering the deep colour and powerful palate, but they grow with time. Prune and blackberry jam flavours. Concentrated, vibrant, plush and delicious.

    Mr. Riggs Piebald Syrah 2016

Deep, bright, bold colour and a plummy, slightly herbal, fruit-driven bouquet. The palate is lively and has bright acidity; the fruit flavours blackberry and dark plum. There's an attractive hint of spice. It's quite full-bodied and robust.
