Press Review

    Moss Wood Pinot Noir 2016

I have never been an admirer of Moss Wood's Pinot Noir, mainly because of the lack of varietal character when grown in Margaret River. However, I must bow and acknowledge that this is among the best yet, with its delicately pitched small red fruits set in a gently-but-persistently savoury backdrop. I know its admirers will cellar all or some of the wine, but I would drink it now while those red fruits still shine.

    Moss Wood Pinot Noir 2016

Not sure why but I always enjoy taking a look at Moss Wood pinot noir.
It’s easy to see pinot noir in this release but at the same time I wouldn’t call it overly varietal. It definitely has a stewy, fruit-backward aspect to it, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Its mouthfeel though is silken, and the tannin profile is A-class. It feels fresh too, fresher than usual, as if the individual pieces were given a pep talk before they were placed. There’s an impression of carefulness here; always something worth appreciating.
