Few stories can be told about modern Australian wine without mentioning the amazing rise of Margaret River, and Leeuwin Estate as a pioneer. Founded by Denis and Tricia Horgan in 1979, it is the star estate of Margaret River’s southern area; with a particular pedigree in its famed Chardonnay, but also relatively recent acclaim for Cabernet and Shiraz.
Leeuwin Estate Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
After berry sorting and cold soak fermentation in open and closed fermenters with pumping over three times daily, mlf in barrel plus 9 months maturation, further barrel selections in French barriques with rackings timed by a lunar calendar. The taming of the tannin is complete, the cabernet varietal character clear cut.

Leeuwin Estate Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Lovely wine here. It’s dense and has a sort of blueberry flavour, along with some vanilla and violet, and some tobacco savoury stuff. Medium-bodied, gentle chew of graphite tannin and ‘mineral’ feel, cool acidity, quiet confidence, and a nice long finish. Really like this. Classy.
