Few stories can be told about modern Australian wine without mentioning the amazing rise of Margaret River, and Leeuwin Estate as a pioneer. Founded by Denis and Tricia Horgan in 1979, it is the star estate of Margaret River’s southern area; with a particular pedigree in its famed Chardonnay, but also relatively recent acclaim for Cabernet and Shiraz.

Press Review

    Leeuwin Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Deep red/purple colour. Lovely, elegant, fruit-driven cassisy aroma, with tobacco and dried herbs, the palate also elegant as well as intense and firm, driving and long. A delicious wine, to drink now or cellar. A very serious cabernet. At the price, this is a bargain.

    Leeuwin Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

This is very good cabernet, medium-bodied and extracted with a judicious feel for varietal personality: currant and a verdant lift, underlain with black olive and bay leaf skirting across cabernet’s tannic fibre. This is massaged to the tune of mid-term drinkability, without sacrificing the wine’s structural mettle.

    Leeuwin Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Formerly known as Prelude Cabernet Merlot. It’s still a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (90%) and merlot (10%).

In a good place. Well balanced and styled. Blackcurrant, gum leaf, dark chocolate and olive tapenade notes. Just enough tannin, flavour and length.
