Few stories can be told about modern Australian wine without mentioning the amazing rise of Margaret River, and Leeuwin Estate as a pioneer. Founded by Denis and Tricia Horgan in 1979, it is the star estate of Margaret River’s southern area; with a particular pedigree in its famed Chardonnay, but also relatively recent acclaim for Cabernet and Shiraz.
Leeuwin Art Series Shiraz 2017
Open and closed fermenters with 20% whole bunches, plunged/pumped over daily, pressed to new and used barrels for a total of 18 months in oak. Deep, bright purple-crimson; after early (10 years±) hesitation about the synergy that might be gained from this marriage of wine and place all doubts were comprehensively answered. Lovely medium to full-bodied blackberry and co flavours.

Leeuwin Art Series Shiraz 2017
It’s a creamy expression of Margaret River shiraz. It feels soft and smooth, aided by vanilla-accented oak. It tastes of cherry plum, bay leaf and clove, emphasis on the plum, with cedarwood and spice as afterthoughts. If you’re really oak-averse than this wine isn’t for you but for everyone else there’s a lot of pleasure to be had here.
