Katnook Estate Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon | 'Outstanding' Langton's Classification (VII 2018)

Katnook is one of the oldest and most acclaimed producers of fine Coonawarra wine. With a history dating back to 1896, it has estate vineyards in the heart of the famed soils on the Riddoch highway. Winemaker Wayne Stehbens made every single vintage of Katnook up until his passing in 2017; a remarkable achievement. In 2018, a new chapter began with Senior Winemaker Tim Heath building on this legacy and leading Katnook's journey into the future.

Press Review

Katnook Estate Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Machine-harvested, crushed and destemmed, 5-10 days on skins with cultured yeast, matured for 39 months in French and American oak (52% new). This has always been an iconic wine, and the bright crimson colour is a great start, quickly followed by beautifully pitched cassis/blackcurrant fruit and finely shaped tannins in perfect balance. There’s not much to say about this wine, so perfect is the balance and mouthfeel.

At what age do you believe this wine is at its peak?
Katnook Odyssey demands time to truly express itself. This Coonawarra cabernet will age gracefully for decades, however between 10 to 15 years you will be rewarded with a seamless blend of intense fruit, extended oak maturation notes and velvety, fine-grained tannins. - Tim Heath
