Katnook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 6pk 2017
Katnook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - Langton's 'Excellent' Classification (VII 2018)
Katnook is one of the oldest and most acclaimed producers of fine Coonawarra wine. With a history dating back to 1896, it has estate vineyards in the heart of the famed soils on the Riddoch highway. Winemaker Wayne Stehbens made every single vintage of Katnook up until his passing in 2017; a remarkable achievement. In 2018, a new chapter began with Senior Winemaker Tim Heath building on this legacy and leading Katnook's journey into the future.
Katnook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
This mid to full-weighted wine is initially defined by the carapace of largely French oak in which it was aged for 12 months. Tight. Drawn across cedar and vanilla, this needs time in the cellar to fill out. With air, the growing whisper in the glass of cassis, green olive, strewn herb and sage comes to the fore; the oak tannins soften. This stands to be a very fine Coonawarra cabernet as the grape tannins are of pixelated detail, ethereal and finely wrought, pulling it all long. The lingering impression is finesse. Really impressive wine.
