Elderton was founded by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead in 1982, and is now run by their sons, Allister and Cameron. Built around the famous Command vineyard in the centre of Nuriootpa, Elderton also has its own vineyards in Greenock and the Eden Valley. Julie Ashmead leads the winemaking and viticulture teams in crafting distinctly classic, yet refined, Barossa reds that live up to the estate’s history and world class quality.

Press Review

    Elderton Western Ridge Grenache 2018

“An estate-grown 78/22% blend, the grenache planted 1969, the carignan in 1915, hand-picked and crushed together. A wolf in sheep's clothing, it is at once savoury and fruity, the mouthfeel that of the grapes ex very old vines, an intangible thing.”

“Vibrant raspberries, as well as a floral edge here with such attractive and energetic fruit flesh on the palate. Long and juicy raspberry finish”.

    Elderton Western Ridge Grenache 2018

Thyme and bay leaf notes accent bright cherry fruit in the 2018 Western Ridge Grenache-Carignan. It's a 90/10 blend, with the Grenache turning 50 years old this year and the Carignan dating back to 1915. Aged in large, older French barrels, there's no overt oak influence, just a lovely silky texture to this medium to full-bodied wine. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Production is a little more generous than last vintage, with 125 cases produced.
