Winery Details

Elderton was founded by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead in 1982, and is now run by their sons, Allister and Cameron. Built around the famous Command vineyard in the centre of Nuriootpa, Elderton also has its own vineyards in Greenock and the Eden Valley. Julie Ashmead leads the winemaking and viticulture teams in crafting distinctly classic, yet refined, Barossa reds that live up to the estate’s history and world class quality.

Elderton Ode to Lorraine CSM 2018

It has a delicious sweet plummy blackcurrant fruit intensity, balanced with some nice sappy oak with a little cedary character. It’s very long in the mouth with a delicious, sweet fruit character. Sinewy tannins thread through the ripe fruit, leading into a dry, focussed finish. This is one of the best yet under this label.

Elderton Ode to Lorraine CSM 2018

58/38/4% cabernet sauvignon/shiraz/merlot from estate vines in Nuriootpa. Matured 28 months in 30% new French oak puncheons. Medium red/purple hue. The red berry fruits tang of cabernet is well married to the spicy dark berries of shiraz. More than 2 years in barrel is a long time, serving to diminish fruit brightness and amplify medium-grained tannins. The result is a savoury style of tomato, roast cashew nuts and dark chocolate, holding the persistence and acid line to see out those tannins in the cellar.
