Richard Langford - Barons of the Barossa 2018 Barossa Winemaker of the Year

Elderton was founded by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead in 1982, and is now run by their sons, Allister and Cameron. Built around the famous Command vineyard in the centre of Nuriootpa, Elderton also has its own vineyards in Greenock and the Eden Valley. Winemaker Richard Langford crafts distinctly classic, yet refined, Barossa reds.

Elderton Ode to Lorraine CSM 2014

A wine defined by the thrust of Barossan density and the tenacious vinosity of older vines, finely tuned to the parry of chalky tannins, tangy acidity and a deft hand across the extraction regime. In all, a lighter shade. Plums of all types, pastille, a potpourri of herbs and the pull of mint, all play a part in a wine that leaves a resounding impression of elegance despite the stamp of generosity that is, no matter how we paint it, the mark of Barossa.

Elderton Ode to Lorraine CSM 2014

The best way to describe this edition of Elderton’s Ode to Lorraine (a cabernet, shiraz and merlot blend) is to call it a smooth talker.
It’s just oh so smooth. Nothing fancy, just deep, rich, blackberried/blackcurranty fruit, coated in a sensible level of chocolate, sensual and seductive. There are of course some dried herb notes but all those sweet berried cassis-like notes reign supreme here. Tannin is a gentle melt throughout. It’s a big warm red in the best sense of the words.

An impressive cabernet, shiraz, merlot blend with lashing of oak. There are ripe fruit and smoky, char-oak, aromas, which continue onto the palate. It's full-bodied and dense with lots of oak and tannin, but also lovely fruit sweet middle palate flavour.
