Winery Details

Elderton was founded by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead in 1982, and is now run by their sons, Allister and Cameron. Built around the famous Command vineyard in the centre of Nuriootpa, Elderton also has its own vineyards in Greenock and the Eden Valley. Julie Ashmead leads the winemaking and viticulture teams in crafting distinctly classic, yet refined, Barossa reds that live up to the estate’s history and world class quality.

Press Review

    Elderton Helbig 1915 Shiraz 2019
From a parcel of 1915 plantings in Greenock, this has very rich dark-plum, blackberry, currant, chocolate and black-fruit aromas, as well as freshly turned dark earth, dark, sweet spices and graphite. The palate has impressive depth with such velvety texture and really rich black-fruit flavors that are so long and dusted with cocoa powder throughout. Speaks to this powerful, dark-fruited section of the Barossa. Drink over the next decade or more.

    Elderton Helbig 1915 Shiraz 2019
From vines planted in 1915 by the Helbig family, Elderton's 2019 Helbig 1915 Shiraz is a dark, purple-black wine, yet it doesn't come across as overly rich or heavy. Blackberry fruit remains vibrant and almost crunchy in texture, framed by ripe but firm tannins and accented by hints of menthol and mocha. It's full-bodied, not as opulent and powerful as the 2018 version, but still concentrated and long on the finish. Give it a couple of years in the cellar and drink it over the next two decades.
