Elderton was founded by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead in 1982, and is now run by their sons, Allister and Cameron. Built around the famous Command vineyard in the centre of Nuriootpa, Elderton also has its own vineyards in Greenock and the Eden Valley. Winemaker Richard Langford crafts distinctly classic, yet refined, Barossa reds.

Elderton Estate Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre 2017

48/34/18 blend of grenache, shiraz and mourvèdre. 100% estate grown at Greenock. Vine age ranging from 18-43 years. It all goes into (old) French oak puncheons.

Lovely wine. Absolutely spot on. Texture has an attractive chubbiness to it, flavour is mid weight in a good way, and the finish is chewy, spicy and satisfying. It tastes of raspberry, anise and sweet spices for the most part though there’s a a musky redcurrant aspect too. It’s deliciously, basically, though it’s shaped and crafted to perfection.

Elderton Estate Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre 2017

This has been stitched together well. It offers raspberry and deeper blackberry aromas in a fresh, lively style. The palate delivers a juicy, ripe core of summer berry compote. Drink now.

Elderton Estate Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre 2017

Deepish colour with a smoky, char and dark berry bouquet with foresty and spicy overtones. The palate has the penetrating intensity of some shiraz in the mix, and it has length and line and a nice firm finish.
