Richard Langford - Barons of the Barossa 2018 Barossa Winemaker of the Year

Elderton was founded by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead in 1982, and is now run by their sons, Allister and Cameron. Built around the famous Command vineyard in the centre of Nuriootpa, Elderton also has its own vineyards in Greenock and the Eden Valley. Winemaker Richard Langford crafts distinctly classic, yet refined, Barossa reds.

Press Review

    Elderton Estate GSM 2015

Full red colour with a tinge of purple, and a herbal, earthy, plummy bouquet inflected with spices and sappy plums. The wine is medium to full-bodied and has an underscore of firm tannins. Ample flavour and weight, attractively flavoured and loaded with cellaring potential.

    Elderton Estate GSM 2015

35/33/32 blend of grenache, shiraz and mourvèdre, which seems like a fair way to go about things. 100% estate grown at Greenock. It all goes into (old) French oak.
A core of redcurrant adds both a sweetness and a brightness. There’s a curl of kirsch too, a kind of rusty spice note, and a push of plum-shot fruit. Alcohol warmth takes something from the wine’s freshness but the overall shape and feel of this wine, not to mention flavour, keeps it in very good drinking territory. It’s a quality wine.
