De Iuliis Lovedale Road Shiraz Touriga 2017

An 80/20% blend designed for early drinking, that won a top-gold medal at the Hunter Valley Wine Show '18. An unusually floral bouquet is promptly followed by a juicy/fleshy mid-palate, the fine tannins which then appear simply providing structure. I would bet the proverbial house that this will comfortably sail through '30 if any stray bottles came to light in the cellar. 14% alc.

At what age do you believe this wine is at its peak?
Originally made to be enjoyed in its youth, this shiraz touriga blend is right at home with some bottle age. The touriga adds some tannin and weight to the shiraz. With age, the regionality of this wine will shine, with savoury herbs and bright underlying red fruits. We would expect this wine to hit its peak in 10 to 15 years. - Mike De Iuliis

De Iuliis Lovedale Road Shiraz Touriga 2017

Hunter Gathering tasting: One wine stood heads and shoulders above the rest in bracket 3, with the 2017 De Iuliis LDR Vineyard Shiraz Touriga an absolute winner. It was even better than the Mike’s standard 2017 Shiraz, actually. He believes that Touriga loves heat, which makes it perfect in warm years like 2017 (and 2018 for that matter), and the small addition to the Shiraz adds an extra layer of both fruit fragrance and bright red fruit. The other Shiraz blends were approachable enough, even if they weren’t as exuberant.

...To be honest this tasting was too quick for me to start forensically picking apart the wines. But it wasn’t hard to appreciate the form, and take away one thing – 2017 is a great year for Hunter Shiraz (in particular).

De Iuliis Lovedale Road Shiraz Touriga 2017

Such a pretty wine - a cracking drop. Rush to this!

Gorgeous aromas of red flowers, dried flowers, violets, fresh cherries, blueberries and plums. Quite a generous introduction you could say.

An 80/20 blend, age will not weary it. Over a couple of days it was brimming and refused to fatigue.

Great width to the fruit but the depth and density is evident too. Moreish, red earthiness pulses through flanked by dried herbs and savoury charm from the Touriga. Black fruit and plums tick away effortlessly before a puckering dryness adds further appeal and urges another sip to be had. And I don't mind if I do. Superb.

This blend of 80% shiraz and 20% touriga nacional works well, delivering the same elegance of Hunter shiraz with extra gloss and power. Nice, perfumed flowers and red berries with a succulent, red-fruit palate. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
