The Lloyd family founded Coriole in 1967, and are considered pioneers in the McLaren Vale region, and visionaries in the planting of Italian and French varieties. Long before it was fashionable, Mark Lloyd developed vineyards of Sangiovese, Picpoul, Chenin Blanc, Nero d’Avola, and others, plus of course, Shiraz. They are considered one of the leading lights of the region.

    Coriole Nero d'Avola 2018

It's hard not to love what's in the glass. Such a pretty wine. Nero d'Avola done proud - well played to the Coriole crew.

Take a whiff talking bright violets, red flowers, plums and blackberries. Dig deeper for sarsparilla and licorice too. Very much fruit forward, it saw old oak for six months. Fine spices and puffs of earth all chip in building detail and layers of interest. Super soft tannins clutch to a long a persistent finish - something that sneaks up and just lingers delightfully. A great food wine hands down. Just pour large and happiness will follow.

No fiddling about here. Purple, stony, floral, spicy, dark chocolate almond. Medium-bodied, distinctly ‘mineral’ feel here, good fruit, but not specifically fruity, with a raft of other more savoury flavours in the mix. Finish is gently chalky in tannin, with an ‘inky’ aftertaste. Wonderful. Very highly recommended.

This nero d’avola is nicely dialed-in with vibrant raspberry and redcurrant aromas, leading to a very sleek, fleshy and brightly flavored palate. Drink now. Screw cap.

Deep red/purple colour, fresh and bright and young, with a slightly reductive nose which opens onto black fruits, blackberry and a hint of licorice. There's a hint of bitter dark chocolate on the back-palate. Full-bodied and firm. Very good potential.

Divided the panel somewhat, but was one of my top wines. I thought it started well, with plenty of sweet, dark fruit on the nose, leading to a supple palate with rich flavours and fine tannins. Paterson notes, "an engaging aroma of plum and spice with vanilla bean and chocolate accents. Blackberry pastille flavours. Integrated acidity and soft tannins." It's very young but is already drinking beautifully.
