Coriole Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 6pk 2019
The Lloyd family founded Coriole in 1967, and are considered pioneers in the McLaren Vale region, and visionaries in the planting of Italian and French varieties. Long before it was fashionable, Mark Lloyd developed vineyards of Sangiovese, Picpoul, Chenin Blanc, Nero d’Avola, and others, plus of course, Shiraz. They are considered one of the leading lights of the region.
Coriole Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
An estate plating dating from 1986. A short 8 days on skins, obviated by plentiful oak for an estate wine (25% new), where it remained for 18 months. Nori-salty. Black olive and sage. Verdant herb. Currant and bay leaf, to be sure. But this is a bit burly and drying. I would usually prefer the region’s cabernet over shiraz, simply for the moreish tannins. Here, not so sure.
