Tasmanian Winery of the Year | 2018Melbourne International Wine Competition

2018 Gourmet Traveller Wine Viticulturalist of the Year

The Bream Creek vineyard was planted in 1974 by Fred Peacock. One of the first commercial vineyards established in the Apple Isle state, it has long been considered one of the very best sites in Eastern Tasmania. Fred's premium cool-climate wines are concentrated and long, thanks to the mature vines and low yields.

    Bream Creek Reserve Chardonnay 2016

Medium to light colour, the aroma fresh and clean, cashew and white peach; lemon and grapefruit in the mouth. A wine of great delicacy and refinement, length and crisp follow-through. Superb - a key feature is its lemony fruit purity. It will blossom with further age. (Tasted January 2018)

    Bream Creek Reserve Chardonnay 2016

Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, wild-fermented in French oak (21% new), matured for 9.5 months. Distinctly greater weight and complexity, yet a little more French oak, a few more days in that oak, and 0.3% more alcohol have had a seemingly disproportionate effect (its varietal sibling is effortless and ready to drink).

    Bream Creek Reserve Chardonnay 2016

The past few vintages from Fred Peacock and his team at Bream Creek Vineyard have been excellent - the 7.5 hectare vineyard at Marion Bay was originally planted in 1974, making it one of the oldest commercial vineyards on the island. Peacock purchased it is 1990. The 2016 vintage was a stunner in Tasmania and this very-limited-release reflects that with high-quality fruit showing citrus and stone fruit flavours allied to spicy French Oak, some buttery/savoury notes and excellent length, all at just 12.9% alcohol. Pair with white meat dishes like stuffed pork loin, or a traditional roast chicken. Already stylish and sophisticated, this will benefit from short- to medium-term cellaring.

Excellent fruit and oak balance. Complex, elegant, powerful.
