One of Ten Best New Wineries - James Halliday Wine Companion 2019

Brave Souls is the creation of young winemaker Julia Weirich, in collaboration with Simon Cowham and Corey Ryan of Sons of Eden. The name is inspired by the story of the famous Admella shipwreck of 1859 and spotlights the remarkable accounts of those characters who risked their lives to help the survivors. Iconic Australian artist Bruce Goold generously agreed to visualise the tales of these Brave Souls for the project’s labels. Read More

Press Review

Brave Souls 'The Able Seaman' GSM 2018

It’s a myth that the BBC childrens’ show, Captain Pugwash, featured characters named “Roger the Cabin Boy”, “Master Bates”, and “Seaman Staines”. The real names were “Master Mate”, “Tom the Cabin Boy”, and “Pirates Barnabas and Willy”. So there you go. Although I know one Wine Front subscriber has an Instagram account for his dog, called “Roger the Dog”, and, of course, I had to point out that particular double entendre. But here we have The Able Seaman. Avast yea mateys!

Juicy blue fruit, coal dust, aniseed and spice. Succulent, soft powdery tannin, all the sweet blue and red fruits, something like a salty beef jerky and earthy Mataro flavour, a light gloss and spicy sweet raspberry finish of good length. Bold flavour of easy-going and hearty appeal.
