Between Five Bells Red 12pk 2015 - Vigorous Bros
Made at the Lethbridge winery, Between 5 Bells is the brainchild of David Fesq, the 6th generation of a wine family with their origins as Negocients in Bordeaux. His ancestor Georges Fesq came over in 1848 intending only to sell his wares en-route to Sydney and then return to France having spread the seed of the First Growths of Bordeaux. 160+ years later, David has taken the family into a new genre of wine with his 5 Bells wines. The driving ideology of wine is neither of place or varietal. Rather unique wines of Australian origin that are simply delicious to drink.
60% shiraz, 30% shiraz (the lot is split into whole bunch and de-stemmed respectively) and 5% pinot noir, 2% negroamaro, 3% nero d’avola. It’s produced at Lethbridge in a collaboration with a few industry cats.
It’s a bright, lively red wine of high drinkability and easy going charisma. You’d say that there’s more than fair share of seriously meaty, gamey, blood sausage and meat dripping scents and flavours, but the acidity, and young, fresh berry fruitiness goes ok against the brunt of savouriness.... Tannins are good, and texture is squeaky.... It’s fresh and fun, no doubt...good drink
